마이클 주의 작품이 뉴욕 휘트니 미술관에서 9월 27일까지 열리는 <America Is Hard to See>전에서 상영된다. 그의 미디어 작품인 ‘Salt Transfer Cycle’은 휘트니 미술관이 소장한 작품 약 600여 점이 전시되는 이번 기획전에 마련된 필름/비디오 프로그램의 <Mind Eye Body>을 통해 4차례 상영된다. 그의 작품과 함께 Carolee Schneemann의 ‘Meat Joy’와 Stan Brakhage ‘Persian Series 13-18’ 등 세 작품이 포함된 <Mind Eye Body>는 신체의 움직임과 유기적 세계관을 통해 제의적으로 변모하는 인간 에너지의 탐구라는 주제를 다룬다. 마이클 주는 8분 길이의 이 작품에서 과학에 의존하여 완벽과 성장을 갈구하는 현대 인간의 자화상을 그려낸다.
Michael Joo’s video will be shown in the exhibition, America Is Hard to See, at the Whitney Museum of Art. As part of 600 works newly acquired as collections, Salt Transfer Cycle will be shown four times as part of Film & Video Screenings Series called ‘Mind Eye Body’. Together with Carolee Schneeman’s Meat Joy and Stan Brackhage’s Persian Series 13-18, ‘Mind Eye Body’ will explore the change of human energy ‘through the body, movement, and the organic world’. This 8-minute work describes modern human beings striving for improvement and perfection relying on science.
