Gimhongsok is participating in a group exhibition World of Xijing, part of the Asia Art Project organized by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. Xijing Men is the collective formed in 2006 by Gimhongsok (Korea), Chen Shaoxiong (China), and Tsuyoshi Ozawa (Japan), who had previously been working independently as artists. The three artists agreed to create a fictitious city, Xijing, and call themselves Xijing Men. As a group, they make critical yet comic plays about the falsity of contemporary life. Through Xijing Men, the exhibition takes an opportunity to look Asia as a whole. Moreover, through comic appropriation, it provides an opportunity to throw a question at the imaginary Asia in our minds. This exhibition explores a cross section of post-conceptual characteristics in Asian contemporary art in the late 1990s, and through this effort, it aims to evaluate the present and future of contemporary art in Asia.


김홍석, 국립현대미술관 그룹전 <시징의 세계> 참여

김홍석 작가는 국립현대미술관의 <아시아 아트 프로젝트> 2015년 프로그램의 하나로 기획된 <시징의 세계>전에 참여한다. 이번 전시는 한, 중, 일 3국 출신으로 세계적으로 활발히 활동하고 있는 김홍석(한국), 첸 샤오시옹(중국), 츠요시 오자와(일본) 등 세 명의 작가가 2006년 결성한 프로젝트 그룹 ‘시징맨(Xijing Men 西京人)’을 초대하여 그들이 탐구하는 아시아성에 대해서 총체적으로 살펴보는 기회를 갖는다. 또한 이번 전시는 아시아가 대면하고 있는 동시대성에 대한 희극적 전유를 통해서 우리가 상상하는 아시아성에 대한 성찰적 질문을 던질 수 있는 기회를 제공하고자 한다. 90년대 이후 아시아 현대미술에 등장한 후기개념미술적 태도의 한 단면을 시징맨을 통해 살펴보고 이를 통해 아시아 현대미술의 현재와 미래를 점검하는 기회를 가질 예정이다.
